Hello!
So, it's all been a bit quiet at Hooting and Howling for the last couple of months, but we had good reason... the brilliant 10 Gales has sadly had to close down. Hopfully it'll be up and running again soon, but for now Hooting and Howling is a little bit homeless! But, we have found homes for two very exciting events!
Brixton Windmill | 8 June | 8pm | £5
Hooting and Howling presents Blind Boy Butler, Black Jack Barnet and Hyperpotamus
What a brilliant line-up! Black Jack Barnet and Blind Boy Butler, both members of Dr Butler's Hatstand Medicine Band, will bring back the olden days with folk, blues and soul. expect washboard, banjos and jews harps!
Then we've got a modern one man band - Hyperpotamus who will not only stand on stage alone and sound like a full choir, but word has it he's also got some killer dance moves! Without doubt one of the best looping artist you'll ever see!
All of this will be taking place at Brixton Windmill, it's just £5 on the door and we'll be there from 8pm!
Hooting and Howling Mini Fest!!!!
I2 June | 3-10pm | FREE!!!
Walrus Bar/Tunnels behind Walrus Bar | 172 Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7RW
It's nearly here, the best free festival of the summer (it really is going to be amazing!).
Hooting and Howling present a full day of music, tunnels, beer, books and food! We've got live sets from the likes of Laura Moody, Jamie Harrison and The Lone Taxidermist, a one day only Hooting and Howling record store with stock from independent UK labels and artists, second hand books from Lex Libris and we've even got the lovely boys from 10 Gales (who will be selling some of Ernesto's home maid "secret recipe" Spicy Sauce!!!!).
Live Muisc From:
Laura Moody | The Lone Taxidermist | James Page | Roshi | You Are Wolf | Finn Ryder | Jamie Harrisone | Ivy York
All of this will be taking place in some stunning old tunnels behind Walrus Bar. With high ceilings, open brickwork and cave like acoustics this is a great space to experience live music!
This is a free event, just a couple of minutes from Lambeth North and Waterloo Tube Stations. Pop in for a set or come for the whole party!
Hooting and Howling Promotions present live music nights accross London. With live gigs every 2nd Wednesday of the month and one off sepcial events Hooting and Howling showcases off kilter pop and alternative music, always featuring great talent and something a bit different. The Lone Taxidermist....
Back in the day I was in a band called The Bottomfeeders, there was lots of glitter, lots of pork pies and we liked to sing about skinny white boys, horses and fly trouble. We had a good few years but things changed and we parted ways.
The Bottomfeeders was the brain child of Natalie Sharp, one of the most creative people I (and most other people) have ever met. She now resides in London Town and has gone solo. Under the name The Lone Taxidermist and with help from an excellent nob twiddler (Phil from Tunng) and a beating tribal goddess (Lindt Morris) she's been making a noise singing about pies, bad leggings, roadkill and intoxicating men. Her live shows have all the glitter, taxidermy, tassels, lady-goth you could wish for, with the addition of some great make-up art (Natalie's day job is a face and body painter).
After a long wait The Lone Taxidermist's new video Bijoux Boy is finally ready for the world to see. And see it you must (just click on the link)!
The Lone Taxidermist will be performing at the Hooting and Howling minifest on 12 June 2011. It's a free event and we can guarantee you'll be impressed!
If you can't wait till June for a music fix, get yourself down to Temesis Dock on Wednesday the 13 April for an evening of live music from Hyperpotamus and Messner.

Changes are afoot... to the Sea!
Our beloved 10 Gales are having a few issue at the moment, so Hooting and Howling is going on holiday. We're going to be travelling far and wide, to the sea and back, in search is windmills and artists....
The new home for our next gig is:
Wednesday 13 April | 8pm | £5 on the Door
Temesis Dock -
Albert Embankment, between Vauxhall and Lambeth Bridge,London , SE1 7TP
I love this venue, not only is it pretty, off the tourist track whilst still being in centrallondon , but it's a boat! and not one of those posh river boats, but a proper Dutch boat with wonky doors and wooden floors! So, Messner and Hyperpotamus will be serenading you below deck.
As always the music will be brilliant, the atmosphere will be lovely, and i can promise you'll love the venue!
See you there.

***GIG CANCELLED*** Next gig and a few things to look out for...
***THIS MONTHS GIG HAS BEEN CANCELLED. We hope to book Old Ghosts and Jamie Harrison for a gig in the next couple of months***
So, we're very exctied about the next Hooting and Howling gig this Wednesday. We've got two great musicians booked...
Wednesday 9 March | 8pm | £5 on the door
Old Ghosts and Jamie Harrison
Old Ghosts
Old Ghosts play gutsy bluesy folk, the kind of music that should be enjoyed with a glass of wine, stamping feet and puts the world to rights. ‘Definitely worth sticking with Old Ghosts’, that’s what BBC Introducing say!
Recordings and more info available at www.oldghosts.co.uk
Jamie Harrison
One or Red Deer Club's finest! In his own words 'Jamie Harrison sings about the struck world and plays death-rattle guitar rags for mothers on the stairs'. With great stories, amazing guitar playing and a good dash of humour, you're going to be tapping your toes and smiling!
Have a listen at www.myspace.com/jamieharri sonsingssongs
Also, I’ve seen/heard a few interesting things recently that I think are well worth a visit/listen. So if your Monday morning is already a bit quiet and you fancy something to entertain you, have a look at...
Wilton's Music Hall: Definitely one of London 's best venues. Set in a music hall from the1850s the venue offers free live music nights every Monday in the Mahogany Bar (Columbus Giant will be there on the 21 March). The main hall plays host to corporate events and some really amazing live music events (Wild Beasts will be there in May, i think it's sold out now, but it's well worth hunting down some tickets).
PJ Harvey: I can not stop listening to her new album, it's really bloody amazing! Have a listen (it's on spotify for those short of pennies or like to try before they buy!).
The Lone Tasxidermists Video Blog: Our good friend and regular attendee of the Hooting and Howling events has started a video project where (in her own words) she presents 'every day a new video every video one minute every minute is original footage an idea brought to you by BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson the idea executed by The Lone Taxidermist the aim to is to create a community of video bloggers that inspire, entertain and inform the viewer of the stream of consciousness. With no preparation. Just pure video vomiting.' Full of interesting insights and words, this blog is worth a visit.
Efpi Records and HAQ: I saw HAQ last week and can say their new album is very good! They combine great tunes with free improvisation, meaning you're never quite sure what you're going to get! Efpi Records is also a great label promoting jazz fromManchester based musicians.
So, that's about it for Monday morning distractions. See you on Wednesday!
